Reports Indicate Nick Sirianni Will Remain The Eagles Coach
Following a complete collapse this season, there was a lot of talk that Nick Sirianni would be out of the job. The Eagles went from 10-1 to 11-6. They topped it off by getting embarrassed by the Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs. 9 points was all the Eagles offense could muster, while their defense gave up 30. Nick Sirianni was firmly in the hot seat, and his job hinged on a meeting with Jeffrey Lurie later in the week.
Apparently whatever Sirianni said in that meeting, was enough to get one more chance. Reports are he will return as their head coach next season. Nick and Howie Roseman will address the media on Wednesday. And it seems unlikely they would have a joint press conference just to say Nick is being fired.
…
Nick Sirianni’s time in Philly started as well as it can for a head coach. In year one they bounced back from a slow start to make the playoffs. They were beaten up pretty badly there, but there was a foundation to build upon. And the next season, they did exactly that. They went 14-3 in the regular season. Two of those losses came in games Jalen Hurts missed. Then they thoroughly beat down the Giants and the 49ers on their way to the Super Bowl. But that is where they came up just short. They lost a close game to the Chiefs. The Eagles’ offense put up 35 points, but it was not enough, and the defense struggled badly in the second half of the game. But they had made a statement, and people thought this was a team that would compete for years to come.
Now, they are teetering on the edge of disaster. Sirianni will get another chance, but all the rope he earned by making it to the Super Bowl is gone. And if he does not turn it around next year, he may not have it for much longer.
The search has already begun for their next DC. And while nothing is official yet, they are apparently looking for a new OC too.
