Bruce Springsteen Celebrated By Pierre And The Professor
There are some that say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. In the case of a Bruce Springsteen and The E Street band Philly concert that adage was certainly put to the test. It was quick the heartbreaking moment last August when The Boss announced he was postponing the 2023 tour. The salt in the proverbial wound was that the shows were going to take place a full year later.
The time has indeed come, our hearts are filled with excitement and we now are so thrilled to welcome home Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band! Performing two nights at (Pierre’s Good) Citizens Bank Park, Wednesday August 21st and Friday August 23rd. There is nothing like a Philly Bruce show so to honor that we celebrate with a very special guest.
“Professor” Kevin Gunn
There is probably no bigger advocate for Bruce’s music that WMMR alum Kevin Gunn. A multi decade career with MMR’s programming department, Kevin received the moniker of “The Professor” due in part to his encyclopedic knowledge of every and all things Bruce Springsteen. His music, his band members, his tour, his relationship to the station: You name it Kevin probably knows it. He not only will tell you about it, Kevin will do so with an enthusiasm that only a true fan can achieve. His love for everything E Street keeps you hooked on every word.
During an extended Springsteen concert-esque Workforce Block (lasting approximately 3 hours) on Wednesday we invited Kevin to chat about what makes Springsteen and his Philly shows so iconic. Everything from Bruce’s relationship with WMMR, even being a guest DJ with David Dye in 1974 and the current lineup and live contributions of The E Street Band. The cornerstone of it all was playing Bruce’s amazing records and flashing back to former Bruce Springsteen shows of past including the September 7th and 9th 2016 shows at Citizens Bank Park and his final Spectrum show in 2009 before its demolition.
The line from Kevin Gunn that certainly rings true is something he imparted on his children. A simple message of “Whatever music takes you somewhere…it doesn’t have to be Bruce…I only pray you find something that makes you feel good in your life and inspires you as much as this music has done for me”. It is with this hope and wish we celebrate there two magical concert events with Bruce Springsteen and The E Street band!
