Pierre Premieres Unreleased Tom Petty
While it has been 7 years since his passing in 2017, the estate of Tom Petty has continued to share songs that were stored in the vaults of his many recording moments. From the 38 song greatest hits compilation The Best of Everything to the wicked home recordings, demos and more with Wildflowers & All The Rest. On October 21st 2024, Pierre Robert had a plan to honor what would have been Tom’s 74th birthday the day prior with a full Workforce Block. While that road was indeed travelled, Pierre was able to make another one of his famous musical “Left Turns” debuting another piece of unreleased Tom Petty music.
‘Long After Dark’
The Petty camp announced that a deluxe edition of the 5th studio record Long After Dark would be released on Friday October 18th 2024. The 1982 album had such hits as “You Got Lucky”, “Change of Heart” and “Straight Into Darkness” among its track list. According to Mr. Petty, however, the record could’ve been so much more. In his own words “There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didn’t get on the record, that I thought would’ve made it a better album. I left off…four things that I liked quite a bit. And probably a few more written that never even got in the door.”
‘Never Be You’ Unreleased Tom Petty
One of those songs that didn’t escape the cutting room floor of Long After Dark was a number entitled “Never Be You”. The unreleased Tom Petty and Benmont Tench number did actually see the light of day in a major way. It actually topped the country music charts in 1985 when it was done by Rosanne Cash for her 5th studio record Rhythm & Romance.
The digital version of the deluxe Long After Dark is available now and those who prefer physical music offerings (which is something we highly encourage) are also in for a treat. The set will be released in a variety of configurations, highlighted by a limited edition Tom Petty website exclusive 2LP pressing on 180-gram red with black splatter color vinyl, housed in a numbered foil tip-on jacket with an exclusive lithograph
It will also be available as a 3-disc set featuring 2 CDs, and a Blu-ray audio disc with additional hi-res stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes of the album and bonus tracks, a variety of additional vinyl options includes a 2LP on 180-gram black vinyl; a limited edition 1LP 180-gram turquoise color vinyl pressing (main album only) with double-sided lithograph of Blaze Brooks’ illustrations (available exclusively at indie record stores).
