Tom Morello, Tim Commerford on Working with Conservative Artists
Out now is the self-titled debut LP of Prophets of Rage, an album that has been referred to as “the soundtrack of the resistance.”
That considering, could a band comprised of Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill alumni ever see themselves working with conservative artists?
WRIF’s Meltdown asked that question (mentioning noted conservative Ted Nugent in particular) in a recent conversation with Tom Morrello and Tim Commerford, and Morello had this to say:
“I’ve done countless projects with people all over the political spectrum. You name it…Ted [Nugent] is a friend of mine. I haven’t rocked with him; I’d be happy to rock with him. Music and politics can overlap, and it’s alright if they don’t. Like in my personal life, I’m friends with people who I disagree with politically, and they’re great people. Same thing with music, too. You’re welcome in the moshpit whether you’re right wing, left wing or agnostic, but one of the things we’ve noticed over the course of the last twenty some years is a lot of people are drawn to the music by the aggression [and] might be exposed to a different set of ideas because of the music.”
Commerford, however, had a bit of a differing opinion:
“I will never play with Ted Nugent for as long as I live on this planet…I would ride bikes with him just so I could beat his ass.”
Well…for those holding out for that Nugent/Commerford collaboration, I guess you shouldn’t hold your breath.
