Have You Seen the Center City Pig in Philadelphia?
That’ll do, Pig, that’ll do. A potbellied friend was spotted wandering around Center City Philadelphia last week.
It’s a surprising sight; check out the footage via Wooder Ice below. They received the clip from Karen Hua, reporter for NBC 10. The rather large hog was seen on the sidewalk near 18th and Chestnut Streets, going for an afternoon stroll and taking in the sights (or perhaps looking for a snack?)
Followers were quick to offer up guesses as to why a pig might be roaming around the city. There were bacon jokes aplenty, while one user quipped, “Farm to table is getting a little carried away.”

Several people expressed concern for the pig, but a few Philadelphians pointed out that that he’s wearing a harness with a tag – so, clearly domesticated – and a few said they’ve seen him on the street before. Instagrammer @eileenmarie0914 commented, “His name is Boris. He’s someone’s pet. IYKYK.” Another user, @johnson_cbdhealing, observed, “This was taken right on the corner of 18th & Chestnut St in Philly. I live right down the street from there, which this pig’s owner was in the vicinity of its pig, but not in sight of the camera. The pig was in no distress at all; the owner was there.”
Mystery solved. Boris the Chestnut Street Pig does have a companion, though they don’t appear in the video. Let’s hope he doesn’t wander down to the Passyunk neighborhood, where a bacon themed restaurant just opened up. (Gotta say, a pig escaping a bacon shop has “wholesome Pixar movie” written all over it.)
Did you know there’s another pig that’s made his home in Philadelphia? Next time you’re at Reading Terminal Market look for the statue of Philbert the Pig, who grants good luck to passersby and collects donations via his “piggy bank” for Philly Food Trust, an organization that fights hunger here in our city.
