Olson reached stardom as Sweet Dee on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. She kept the momentum going with another funny and outrageous mess of a character in The Mick.
Hacks has put her sense of humor on full display as DJ Vance, the daughter of main character Deborah Vance (played by Jean Smart).
DJ Vance knocked it out of the park in recent episode by thanking/roasting her mother’s character for all she’d given to her daughter: a house, an education, crippling anxiety, bipolar disorder, multiple subpoenas…
“I love that I’m like a middle-aged toddler like throwing a temper tantrum all the time… It’s such a fun character.” -Kaitlin Olson
She spoke about why she enjoys the role in a comedy about writing comedy.
“Their film work is so creative. They’re writing is so creative. I love working with people who are thinking outside the box and just trying to do something different because everything can get so boring. Everyone’s just like following a formula. To find a show that likes going outside the box, I think it’s why I liked Always Sunny from the beginning… It’s just refreshing to do something different.” -Kaitlin Olson
Philadelphia: Her ‘Favorite City’
Rob McElhenney hosted The Always Sunny Podcast live at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia in September. His wife made a surprise guest appearance that Casey Boy admitted he should’ve seen coming.
How did the drop-in come about?
“I love Philadelphia so much. I will take any opportunity to come there. That doesn’t feel like work at all. It’s so much fun. We’re hanging out with our best friends in our favorite city.” -Kaitlin Olson
ABC will also launch High Potential, a comedy based on a French detective show. Olson will play another quirky mess of a character.
