Why I made a Recovery Support Network based on Partying: Adjusting my views on the importance of mental health and wellness quite literally saved my life. Changing my relationship with alcohol was the most pivotal time period in my life, but addiction is the last chapter of my struggle. My journey into mental health and recovery was severely postponed because of the appearance of what living a sober life looks like. Through this, I saw a desperate need to normalize sobriety in avenues that are directly associated with “partying”. Changing the conversation from “I CAN’T drink” to “I don’t HAVE TO drink”, will directly save countless lives for those who would otherwise postpone sobriety, putting themselves at extreme risk. I am on the other side of this struggle, but this is something not many people can say, and not many will sadly, ever get to. By exposing younger generations to a version of “cool” to put on a pedestal that is rebellious without alcohol, we can finally work to set a helpful example.
What is Sober Savage: Sober Savage is the FIRST and ONLY recovery support community fighting to normalize the fact that partying and consuming alcohol are not mutually exclusive! The team is dedicated to bashing shaming stigmas and educating a younger population by providing comical and colorful entertainment that pushes to showcase mentally healthy partying to the masses. The team plans to organize recovery-friendly options for individuals at events that they would otherwise be unable to attend and provide a sober social network where members can contact one another to carry support into their everyday lives. Together, the goal is to raise how low ‘rock bottom” is for as many people as possible, and change the conversation from TREATMENT to PREVENTION in children and young adults.
The Maxim Cover Contest: The Maxim Cover Girl Competition not only showcases beautiful women full of individuality and ambition, but it also aims to raise awareness for veterans in need. We support Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors’ mission to build and remodel handicap accessible homes to suit the individual needs of injured veterans. All JAH4WW board members are non-paid volunteers who believe wholeheartedly in doing what is right for our military veterans. We’re excited to be partnering with them again for another successful year! (No one from Philly has ever won!).
