6 Romantic Getaways A Short Driving Distance From The Delaware Valley
Are you ready for love?
In an ideal world, you would find a way to show your partner that you love them every single day. But, sometimes reality hits and distracts us from intimate moments like that.
We’re here to give you the inspiration to block out time on the calendar. Make a dinner date. Send a love note. Or plan a weekend getaway.
Don’t worry, we’re not going to leave you hanging with the planning. We found a list on Thrillist that provides the most romantic getaways in each state. For our friends living in the Delaware Valley, we dug out the spots closest to drive to for a quick weekend getaway.
Once you make the plan, try a few of these tips for making your weekend carefree and fun. Pack light. Stay in and order room service. Treat yourself. Bring activities, casual or saucy. Plan an activity that you normally would not do in your day-to-day life.
Below you will find the closest romantic getaways that Thrillist recommends. From a Shore point, to a Pocono town, on the dock of the bay and beyond, there is something that will peak everyone’s interest. Send this list to your loved one and get planning!
Pennsylvania
Jim Thorpe
You may have passed the Jim Thorpe exit right past the Lehigh Tunnel, but have you ever stopped in this quaint town? It boasts year around activities, from skiing and snowboarding to horseback riding and paintballing. The Poconos in general are a great place to plan a getaway, but Jim Thorpe stands out as it’s one of the few spots in that area with a downtown to stroll through and explore.
This town is so romantic, song lyrics have been written about it! There is something extra romantic about going to the Shore in the offseason. The ocean breeze smells different, the streets are less chaotic, and it’s a lot easier to score a restaurant reservation. Thrillist recommends Camp May of all the Jersey Shore points and we agree.
The Inn & Spa at Montchanin is a beautiful spot to treat yourselves. And it’s close by! The hotel is located in Wilmington, DE, and is a great escape from the outside world. Their website invites you to “Come stay the night, relax and enjoy our peaceful grounds, stunning gardens, luxury accommodations, restful Spa, and the wonderful culinary delights of Krazy Kat’s Restaurant.” Outside of the historic site, is a booming restaurant scene. Plenty of options for every price point.
This northern West Virginia town is a great getaway from the Delaware Valley. The town is home of America’s first spa. The fountainhead of warm mineral waters that flow at a constant 74°F from the base of Warm Springs Ridge. The town also offers scenic hikes, outdoor activities, antique shopping and a vibrant arts & culture scene.
“Gem of the Catskills” is the tagline of this town. The destination is a favorite for skiers, snowboarders and mountain bikers. With highly rated local restaurants to try, galleries to visit, and an array of places to stay, your visit will be nothing but amazing!
This historic waterfront village is located on the Chesapeake Bay. The small town charm of this former fishing village will give you the sweet romantic vibes you’re searching for. Stop by the country store for fresh-baked goods and local art, catch a sunset at the one the waterfront dining experiences, and enjoy the beautiful accommodations at one of the numerous local Inns.
