Six Reasons Why We Love / Hate the Movie, Twister
1996 was an iconic year for blockbuster films: Scream, Independence Day, Fargo, Trainspotting, The Rock, The English Patient, Mars Attacks!, Jerry Maguire The Nutty Professor, and Toy Story to name a few. Somehow, amongst those masterpieces, Twister snuck in. In honor of Twister’s 25th anniversary we go back and highlight a few of the film’s best moments.
With creative names like Jan de Bont, Michael Crichton and Steven Spielberg behind it and a mid-90’s all star cast, this film was set up for success. Add in a flying cow, over dramatic acting and lots of windchimes, and this film goes down in junk food movie history.
1) Cataclysmic storms were not enough, they decided to add a love triangle subplot. Also, Jami Gertz.
2) It had an all star cast: Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes, Alan Ruck, Jami Gertz, Helen Hunt, and last but certainly not least, Philip Seymour Hoffman.

3) The Motion Picture Association made them warn parents that storms are scary.

4) We all wanted to eat breakfast at Aunt Meg’s.
5) The team is able to outrun a tornado, but conveniently end up in a shed decorated by Michael Myers.
6) “Humans Being” was the demise of the Sammy Hagar era of Van Halen.
UltimateClassicRock.com tells the full story how Van Halen’s initial 11-year association with Sammy Hagar ended slowly, and then all at once during the recording of this soundtrack single.
AMC will be showing the movie a lot for the next few days. It’s also streaming on HBO Max. But if you are really serious about your fandom, you can visit the Twister Museum in Wakita, OK for the 25th anniversary celebration black party on May 15th.
