Try Tom Hanks’ Signature Cocktail: “The Diet Cokagne”
Tom Hanks is not a drinker. Dry January doesn’t even phase him. But, last week, he surprised fans by sharing a crazy cocktail concoction that he “invented”.
The recipe was reveled on Steven Colbert last week. Hanks is out promoting his new film, A Man Called Otto. He kicked off the interview by telling a story from his night at New York’s Cafe Carlyle over the holidays. Tom’s wife, Rita Wilson, played a set there with her band. Afterward, while jazz duo, Rachael & Vilray, were on stage, a celebratory bottle of champagne was sent over to Tom and Rita’s table.
Ironically, Rachael & Vilray, were the musical guest on Colbert the night that Tom told this story.
This is how Tom described the moment of his cocktail’s inception: He was sipping on his signature Diet Coke over ice, when the bubbles started flowing around the table “like the last episode of ‘The Bachelor’.” Swept up in the moment, he said, “oh, give me a shot of champagne in there for crying out loud.” Everyone at the table thought that he was insane for mixing the sparkling wine into his Diet Coke.
Alas, it was delicious. Even the naysayers tried it and agreed.
But, is it really? Folks on the internet are trying it out and saying…. yeah, it’s not bad!

We tried it ourselves in the studio. Thanks to Matt Cord for having a bottle of prosecco on hand to assist with the experiment. Unfortunately, our results were not the same. Take a look:
