VIDEO: Marisa’s Roadtrip to Kutztown for Green Day “Saviors” Listening Party
Green Day’s fourteenth studio album, Saviors, drops today. And it’s f*%king fantastic!
The band has been on a PR binge pushing this latest release. They were busking with Jimmy Fallon at a New York subway stop. They’ve been dropping funky photo shoots and new videos on their social media pages. And early last week they announced a the biggest event of all. The East Bay punk rockers went global.
Over 200 record store around the world were selected to host listening parties of the new record, a full week before its release.
One of the stores selected was Young Ones Records in Kutztown, which happens to be my husband’s hometown record store. So, we grabbed a couple of Dunkin’ coffees and hit the road on Saturday morning. 90 minutes later, we were in a sea of punk rockers ready to hear the fresh vinyl.
Each of the stores received a huge box of merch to handout to fans. So everyone who showed up got a poster and a wristband. Plus there were ‘zines, shirts and buttons up for grabs.
The best part of the day was experiencing new music with a room full of strangers. There were folks tucked into the corner taking in every lyrics, families rocking out, and solo music lovers enjoying the music while flipping through rows and rows of albums.
Inspired by the rainbow of Green Day shirts we saw, I put together this rad little video from that day.
Stay tuned to MMR all weekend for blocks of Green Day plus lots of chances to score the new record and tickets to see Green Day this summer at Citizens Bank Park. (I’ll see you at the show!)
