Calum Scott Thanks Phillies Fans for 1 Billion Spotify Streams in 2022
In 2021, Calum Scott’s songs streamed 520.3 million times on Spotify. This year, his Spotify Wrapped final number doubled to 1 billion streams.
The English singer and song writer released a similar amount of singles during both of those years. And equally collaborated with other artists during that time. The most notable difference between 2021 and 2022? The Phillies.
In September of 2022 the Phils went on their first playoff run in ten (long) years. Some time around October, Phillies’ Beat Writer, Todd Zolecki, noticed that the team would come into the clubhouse singing “Dancing on My Own” after every win. An odd choice for a celebration song.
Catcher Garrett Stubbs connected the dots by telling Zolecki that the team had a specific playlist they fired off after wins. Scott’s 2018 collaboration with Tiesto happened to be the first song. That’s the whole story. As the team kept winning, it became “the” celebration song.
It also became an anthem of Philadelphia for a few months. The song was on repeat at every every bar, store, tailgate, school, radio station, wedding, soccer game, and on every dad’s iPod. If there was a speaker playing music within the boundaries of Phillies’ Country, that song played on it at least three times.
Calum Scott definitely noticed. He promised to come to Philly for the parade down Broad St. Unforutnaly, we know how that ended. And unfortunately, or not, the song has since been retired from the city’s collective celebration routine. But he did extend a special thank you to Phillies Fans for boosting his streams for the year.
A Tweet went out to Calum’s 207K followers thanking them for listening to his music. It read: As if last year’s numbers weren’t crazy enough, you’ve doubled them this year. Cannot thank you enough for making this year one of my favourites ever. THANK YOU! X.
After that message sat for a few hours and received a countless number of Phillies meme replies, Calum quote Tweeted his original post adding: When I say, I cannot thank you enough, you know that includes the @Phillies and all their fans too right??! I love ALL o’y’all.
Congratulations, Calum, you have joined Tag Team in your own corner of Philly Sports history. Expect a call in the next 10-20 years to be on a float in the Thanksgivng Day Parade.
